Week 1 module briefing
Mr. Razif showed us what to expect from this module and showed us previous works of the past students
We have to use the unity application for this module
There are some examples of other students' work on https://thedesignschool.taylors.edu.my/gamezone
#1 Zapper Snapper by hanif rasheed
. Fast-paced gameplay and movement which is fun and dynamic.
. background and aesthetics are well and cleanly made
. The 8bit style is an interesting and classic approach
. There are some signifiers which helps with the gameplay
. Checkpoints make the game more exciting by encouraging you to avoid failure and finish the game successfully.
. movable objects with physics, a good element to make the game more interactive
Cons.
. The jumps movements and mechanics aren't consistent
. Certain areas are visually overwhelming, making it difficult to distinguish usable platforms.
. the gameplay is somewhat repetitive after a while
what to improve
Polish the jump mechanics
design the platforms a bit more engaging and straighfoward
give the enemies a bit of life instead of just walking back and forth
add story hints as to why you're starting this journey
make it consistentbut not repetitive
#2 Conjure by kezia lynn
. Nice visuals in some parts
. character interaction and clues to progress towards the story
Cons
. is so easy to defeat the enemies as there is no limitation or time delay for the magic which can lead to spamming the attacks and easily defeating the enemies
. Walking is very slow and basic, it makes the game feel unfinished. the walk and jump animation are also pretty mediocre and basic
. a lot of bugs such as the text info when you press y is clipped below the screen and falling out of the game
. the story doesn't really have a purpose
How to improve
add element/magic delay or level up inorder to make the game a bit more challenging
make the enemies scarier instead of just walking back and forth
improve the movements such as walking and jumping, make it engaging and fast paced
add a better story as to why you're starting this journey to the end
Project proposal: we have to make a video presentation showcasing the final idea of what the game is going to be so i started researching and already made some design assets for the game
