UX design

Week 1
Project briefing

Our task for UX Design is to develop a unique brand proposition for a fashion e-tail app that aims to inspire and engage with its niche audience on a daily basis in a way that feels credible, authentic and cool.

Imagine a brand that caters to a specific trend and style, and how your commerce app is able to present and share fashion inspiration in an entirely new way to your target users - 20-somethings who actively use mobile phones to stay up-to-date and make purchases online.

Instructions

After the briefing, we divided into groups and my part is to the group 4 Leader

Then Miss Anis gave us an individual assignment To read a book named "The design of everyday things by Don Norman"

After this, we had to do our first assignment which is also exercise 1

Choose ONE mobile application and break down the affordances, signifiers, mapping and feedback for the UX design.

Describe how the application’s UX design functions when used.

Compile your findings in a document as a report.

Provide necessary visual references of the mobile application, with labels and indicators and relate these to your report.

After reading the book and understanding Affordances, Signifiers, Mapping and Feedback I made the report

Exercise 2

Choose a Scenario Case Study: Select a case study where UX design played a critical role in the success or failure of the product/service.

Research and Analyze: Research the case study and identify the characteristics of good and bad UX design in the scenario. Consider aspects such as usability, accessibility, visual design, information architecture, and user feedback. Collect screenshots or images to illustrate your points.

Create a Google Slides Presentation: Create a Google Slides presentation with a minimum of 6 slides to present your findings.

The presentation should include:

  • Title Slide: Include a title slide that introduces the case study
  • and your analysis

  • Design audit brief:  Provide an overview of the case study and the UX design aspects that were successful or unsuccessful.
and the UX design aspects that were successful or unsuccessful.

  • and the UX design aspects that were successful or

  • unsuccessful.

  • Characteristics of Good UX Design: List and explain the key

characteristics of good UX design that were present in the case study.Characteristics of Bad UX Design: List and explain the key characteristics of bad UX design that were present in the case study. Conclusion: Summarize your findings and offer recommendations for how the UX design could have been improved in the scenario.
  • study.Characteristics of Bad UX Design: List and explain the key characteristics of bad UX design that were present in the case study. Conclusion: Summarize your findings and offer recommendations for how the UX design could have been improved in the scenario.
  • Content: The presentation should be clear, concise with a focus on communicating the key takeaways from the case study and the analysis of good and bad UX design.
  • Assessment: The assessment of each student's presentation will be based on the clarity and effectiveness of the communication, the depth and quality of the analysis, and the adherence to the presentation guidelines.

After analysing all the features I managed to do Do the design audit for the zara application after on

Exercise 2

UX DESIGN EXERCISE 2 by Fadil P

After exercise 2 we started researching about niche fashion applications, the groupmates and I started putting and list and this is the narrowed down list of of the 5 ideas we had

1. grafiti wall art Funky skateboard fashion trend with head to toe apparels (option to collab with grafiti artists for custom designs) https://instagram.com/joetamponi?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

2. Steampunk-Inspired Attire: Victorian-era fashion with a steampunk twist, incorporating gears, corsets, and industrial elements.

3. Upbeat 90s Revival: Modern takes on 1990s fashion, featuring baggy jeans, crop tops, and vibrant patterns of the era.

4. Cyberpunk Street Style: Edgy streetwear influenced by cyberpunk culture, characterized by neon colors, futuristic accessories, and bold statement pieces.

5. Minimalist Japanese Wardrobe: Embracing the principles of Japanese minimalism, focusing on clean lines, neutral colours, and versatile pieces.

After discussion and feedback from the lecturer miss anis we decided to go with the no 1 option which is a skateboarding graffiti themed niche application for high end skater style street wear

Then we further researched more about this and discussed with the name and brand identity

Then I instructed the groupmated to research ebout edgy, slick and funky fashion brands and review their websited and application then when write it down in miro so theat we have a better undertanding of the project and the fashion industry

Later on we came up with a cool name Nmaed "ollie" with an idea I had after research and prior skateboarding experience

After this we had to create user personas and also go for site visits for further research and to understand market competitors

After this me and edwin went for site visits to 3 places. Hype vault, showroom kuala lumpur and vans

Hype vault kuala lumpur

Showroom kuala lumpur

Vans Kuala lumpur

After collecting all the data we continued on the user personas and the user journey maps

At this point, it was quite difficult for me because one of the groupmates was barely contributing and I had a lot of workload for this module because technically we only had 3 people working on this

After this, we started Working on the low-fidelity wireframes in figma. I called Edwin and Shao Cheng to come to taylors for an offline meeting for better communication and collaboration

After working on this for 4 days straight we managed to finish the wireframes in figma

Eventually, I put a lot of time and effort into creating the slides and we managed to make the presentation on week 7 with some help from the groupmates as well

Week 7 Prototype proposal presentation + Group report submission

  • Research data and user journey map

  • Propose idea for the solution

Wireframe design for prototype

UXD.G4 Following this, we delved further into research and commenced the preparation of a User Experience survey. To ensure effective collaboration, I organized an offline meeting with my groupmates on campus. During our discussion, we covered various aspects, including overall design elements, color palette, button graffiti, and interactions. Additionally, we made a survey for interviews focused on the OLLIE application. Subsequently, we tried fishing individuals with interests in skateboarding and fashion enthusiasts to gather insights and data Ollie survey: https://forms.gle/h7Fc3oL8tYCPqH779

Following the survey, we collected and analyzed the gathered data, implementing changes to our application based on user feedback—addressing both positive and negative aspects. Then we continued working on the high-fidelity wireframes throughout week 10 - week 13

making the wireframes and clothes designs was quite challenging as we needed to locate diverse clothing items and utilize Photoshop to integrate the Ollie brand identity and logo onto both the apparel and skateboards. Afterwards, we tested and polished the app until the graffiti elements we mild but still noticeable and it showed a good brand identity

Then, I began creating the Final Presentation according to my vision. I aimed to make it look attractive with a graffiti-style theme, similar to our app and other related elements

    REFLECTIONS

    Experiences
Honestly, when I first entered the UX design class I was quite happy that Miss Anis was teaching this class because all the past modules Miss Anis taught were organized and well structured. (unlike other lecturers ehem..)

    👀

After the project brief, I was quite interested to work on this and apparently I was appointed the group leader for this project. I was skeptical at first but then I thought, "Why not turn this into a joyride? Leading the team could be a fun journey, so I was like might as well just get this done lesgoo!" 🚀

    Observation

As anticipated, this module proved enjoyable as I delved into Malaysia's skating culture, exploring various skateboard shops and sites. The experience enhanced my group management skills compared to previous instances. While I undertook the majority of the workload, collaborating with my groupmates proved enjoyable. However, one member struggled to contribute effectively and comprehend the project requirements, posing challenges. Despite encountering difficulties, we persevered and successfully completed our project.

    Findings
The knowledge we gained over the course of the module formed a good learning curve for us, offering us enough knowledge of UX design principles in along with vital experiences. We thoroughly explored the difficulties involved in creating user-centric designs during our learning journey. It provided us with an in-depth knowledge of the different aspects of user experience, from creation to application. Our education was improved by the exposure to real-world situations and useful programmes, which helped us to understand how crucial user experience is to the design of digital and physical products.
