Intercultural Design

    Week 1
The lecturers gave us a brief introduction to intercultural design in our first class. Next, we had to decide on group size and assign group members, including the leader.

In the whole module we have 3 things to do
  1. Proposal
  2. Data Collection
  3. Final Project
first, we had to come up with ideas so I asked the groupmates to provide at least 1 idea for each person

After everybody showcase the ideas, We evaluated and chose to vote for the best idea for this project

Example (Japanese martial arts)

Then after the voting, we decided to go with the Japanese supernature evil beings (yokai)

For the first proposal we need 3 ideas so I instructed to research about these 8 things so we can have a clearer objective

3 ideas

Idea 1: A Children’s E-book Illustration

Idea 2: Blind Box Figurine with Short Stories

Idea 3: Kitsune Mask design

First proposal

After this proposal miss anis told us to redo the ideas in a "very nice" way

So we started researching again

After a lot of discussion we found a great idea to make good luck charm amulets (omamori's) with each omamori has something to bring good luck to it with out own new yokai design

Updated slides

Objectives

*Go to japan
*collect data about:
*yokai shrines
*omamoris and it's design
*history of yokai and it's origin
*Find out what kind omamori's are there and what kind of luck it provides

Final project
The one last major thing we have do to finish the module is to make the final product and present the slides about our concluded idea.

At first, we decided the final project is to create a new yokai by our own and make an omamori out of it. Then we decided to make 3 of them. First we created the tapir which can the sleep-deprived people, especially university students that are struggling to sleep.

  • Fadil: Research and Writing backstory of the yokai
  • Teo Javin: Yokai designing and implementing the design to a mockup
  • Lee Ren: Youkai designing and poster designing
  • Glen Owen: Youkai designing and coloring
  • Enya Chok: Youkai designing  and coloring
  • Nurul Atiqah: Poster designing and youkai designing

After this I gave origin story ideas and names for the 3 yokai's and what their purpose is. Nurul and Enya did the ideas of the dog yokai and glen did the whole duck yokai inspired from the ducks at Taylors lakeside. Javin and lee ren also worked on some parts of all the artworks and in the we manages to get three yokai's including omamoris which provides luck and protection from the yokais
