Task 2 / Key artwork & Collateral

Instructions

Task 2 / Exercise 2A - Key Artwork
For this task, we are required to create a wordmark/lettering/monogram,
  •  using either the initials of our name, first name, or pet name.
  • need to explore and compose as many permutations and combinations of these initials.
  • must be an elegant solution, not complicated or confusing that leads to a functional and communicable key artwork.
This key artwork will later be used in Task 2(B)

1.1, KEY ARTWORK VISUAL RESEARCH

1.2, Idea sketching
First I started sketching out some ideas I had in mind. I still remember the first time we had to do something liken this it was really hard. But this time I had better coordination and felt easier

Finding ideas was difficult at first, but I eventually focused on what I wanted to portray in this key artwork. My concept was to create artwork in the style of an ocean/water-themed logo. I got some artwork after many attempts and a lot of drawing water splashes.

Mr. Vinod preferred this one and instructed me to put more work into it.

First draft (26/10/2022)

He told me to simplify it by removing the other elements and keeping the "F" in the centre, and to add more details and refine it.

Refining process (26/10/2022)

Digitization of key artwork
I spent more time on the f, changed the shape slightly, and added more details to make it more interesting.

Animation

I wanted to animate this as like a splashing water effect so I used adobe illustrator to draw all the frames

Turns out I drew a little too much and it was 64 frames in the end

Results

I got two outcomes

But I chose to go with the original outcome

Product design

Cosmetics product (26/10/2022)

préservatifs en latex (26/10/2022)

Honey jar (26/10/2022)

Coffee shop window (26/10/2022)

T-shirt design (26/10/2022)

Mug product logo (26/10/2022)

FEEDBACK

Week 6

General feedback: To make it more interesting and not to rely on the graphical elements, try to simplify the whole design into a simpler "F" only

Specific feedback: The idea is nice, work more on refining the letter more precisely and add/remove more elements to make it look interesting

Week 7

General feedback:
Show the purpose of your logo. Logos are designed to express identities, such as a person's or a brand's image. Some designs, known as responsive logos, change shape in stages depending on size.

Specific feedback: Almost there, have a little bit of work to do to accurately portray what you're aiming for

Week 8 - No Feedback (Independent Learning Week)

Week 9

General feedback: should avoid using too many non-key artwork-related objects in the 6 posts.

Specific feedback: The design of many products, as well as overall unity, is required.

REFLECTIONS

Experiences

To be honest, I enjoyed doing this task. I liked how we had to find something that the students were interested in and turn it into a trademark/logo using what we had learned thus far.

Observation
Although the animation and product design portions of this assignment took a long time to complete, it was enjoyable. I'm not sure if I should be happy with the animation, but I know I worked very hard on it as well.

Findings
For the first time, I designed and animated a logo. I realized that a logo is an element that must effectively represent a product or brand. It was interesting to see how things came up in my head and how they turned out to be in the end

Brand identity is the collection of all elements that a company creates to portray the right image to its consumer. Brand identity is different from “brand image” and “branding,” even though these terms are sometimes treated as interchangeable
