Task 3 & Final Project / Web Toon & Motion Comic
This is the final project of this module. basically, we have to create a
webtoon of our own and animate it!
You are now tasked to create a one-shot Web Toon short with the premise
of a FIGHT! genre story of your own creation. Consider 3-act structures
but with interesting twists and plots and action pack scenes. It can be
wordless and presented only with illustrations, or it can be detailed
with stories, filled with speeches and texts.
Project requirements
- Must be published at webtoons.com
- Story must have a 3-acts structure
- At least 60 panels
- Illustrations (stick man drawing is not an illustration) can either be colored or greyscale or screentone shaded render.
- But if you are interested to join the competition, your Web Toon has to be fully colored!
- Content must be PG-13 and SAFE FOR WORK
First thing I have to write a story following the 3 - acts
structure
Sketches
Final version of the webtoon
Just a compilation!!
Part 2 - Motion comic
I put the whole thing in illustrator and went through hell and high water to
get the final product
I used particle effects from youtube, puppet tool, and movement tool and
added a nice little soundtrack to match the theme
Final version!!
REFLECTIONS
ExperiencesThe project at hand was the most challenging of the entire semester. In my entire life, I have never done something like. This sounded like a pretty exciting and fun thing to do, so I was really looking forward to it. But, it turns out that this is too much for a first-year student without any prior experience to handle. The fact That I managed to do this on time is crazy. When I was finished, I was yelling and jumping around my room because I was so happy with what I just made
Observation
I have never done anything like to this before. But, after finishing the storywriting, I was able to clearly visualize how to do this in my mind. I sketched some concept sketches after researching how comics are made. Each panel I drew taught me something new. You can see that as the story progresses to its finale, the quality keeps getting better. Since I struggle to draw human faces, I choose to limit the number of scenes in which faces are seen. I wanted to express the beauty of nature well and I believe I was able to do it well. Making This actually meant a lot to me so I went all out, weeks without proper sleep to finally get here. making the video was mind-boggling but somehow I did it within the time given. If I had more time or less workload of other modules, I definitely would have been able to do it even well.
Findings
It was a great moment when I finally finished it but This was kind of like torture to make first years without any skill in drawing or making anything similar to do 60 panels in such a short amount of time. I believe it can affect one's mental health if they work too hard on something like this. I kinda liked the challenge though. keeping us busy all the time, not leaving a single bit of time to get bored or do something unproductive. I learned many many things in just 3 months since I came here, I'm very grateful to end up in a good country like Malaysia and even more that I got into a university where I quite enjoy the classes and the time I spend there. I'll always remember the first time I made something like a comic book by myself and I believe it's a really cool thing to do!
